Dhal Powder- 2

Description: A powder that can be mixed with either buttermilk or tamarind water and eaten with plain rice.
Preparation Time: 20 mins

MAIN INGREDIENTS:

Redgram dal – 1 cup (250ml cup)
Bengalgram dal – 1 cup
Blackgram dal – ½ cup
Greengram dal – 1 cup
Fenugreek seeds – 1 tblsp
Dry Ginger powder – 1 tblsp

METHOD:

1.Heat a frying pan and add each of the dhals separetly and dry roast on a medium flame till the dhal is rich brown in colour.
2.Spread this on a sheet of paper and allow to cool.
3.Roast the fenugreek seeds to a rich brown colour and allow to cool
4.Once cooled mix the roasted dhals,fenugreek seeds and the dry ginger powder and powder finely.
This can be stored in an air tight container for about 6 months and upto a year in the freezer.

METHOD OF USING THIS POWDER:

INGREDIENTS: Tamarind – 1 samll lime size ball
Turmeric – a pinch
Salt to taste
Gingelly oil – 1 tblsp
Greenchillis – 2
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Asafoetida powder – a pinch
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Soak tamarind in a cup of water and extract the juice and add salt and turmeric powder.
Heat oil in a pan and add asafoetida powder and mustard. when the mustard crackles add the slit green chillis,curry leaves.
Add the above to the tamarind juice and allow it to stay for at least minutes.
Just before serving add 3 to 4 tablespoons of the dhal powder and mix thoroughly.
This can be served with hot rice and ghee and lime pikcle is an excellent accompaniment.
